In short: the course is free to use for learning. Be fair to other learners and to the site, keep your account safe, and do not copy our lessons to build another site. The site is provided as it is, and our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Typingo (“Typingo”, “we”, “us”) about your use of typingo.net, including the typing course, tests, practice tools, certificates and articles (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
Who can use the Service
Anyone may use the lessons and tests without an account. To create an account, send us a message or post a comment you must be at least 13 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian where the law requires it. If you use the Service for an organisation, such as a school, you confirm you are allowed to accept these Terms for it.
The Service
The Service is provided free of charge to help you learn to touch type. We may change, add or remove features, lessons or content, and we may pause or stop the Service, with notice where reasonable. We aim to keep the site available but cannot promise it will always be available, error-free or compatible with every device.
Without an account, your progress is saved in your own browser. We cannot recover it if the browser’s data is cleared or the device is lost, so we recommend downloading a backup from My Progress from time to time.
Accounts
- Give accurate information and keep your email address up to date.
- Keep your password secret and do not share your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You may stop using your account at any time and ask us to delete it.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, puts other users or the site at risk, or is used fraudulently. Where appropriate we will explain why and give you a chance to respond.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use bots, scripts, macros or other automation to type, take tests, earn certificates or post results;
- misrepresent results, for example by presenting someone else’s certificate or a manipulated result as your own;
- copy, scrape or republish our lessons, practice texts, characters or design in bulk, or use them to build a competing service;
- upload or send anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, infringing or containing malware;
- try to gain unauthorised access to the site, other accounts or our systems, or overload or disrupt the Service;
- use the Service in a way that breaks any law.
Certificates and results
Certificates of completion and test results show what you achieved on this site at the time. They are not an accredited qualification and are not issued or endorsed by any government, school, examination board or employer. Each certificate carries a verification code so others can check it was produced by the Service; it does not prove who was typing. Employers and institutions decide for themselves what evidence they accept.
Your content
Text you paste into practice stays in your browser and remains yours; you are responsible for having the right to use it. If you send us feedback, ideas or a comment, you allow us to use it to improve and run the Service and, for comments, to display it on the site. You keep ownership of it.
Our content and intellectual property
The lessons, practice texts, passages, finger characters, illustrations, software, design and the Typingo name and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for learning.
Teachers and organisations may use the Service with their learners and link to any page. Please do not copy lessons or texts into other materials without our written permission.
Adverts and links to other sites
The Service may display adverts and links to other websites. We do not control and are not responsible for other websites, their content, products or services. Your dealings with advertisers are between you and them.
Health and comfort
Typing for long periods can cause strain. Sit comfortably, take regular breaks and stop if you feel pain. The course gives general guidance only; see our Disclaimer.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about it beyond those stated in these Terms, including about a particular result, speed or outcome such as passing a test or getting a job. Nothing in these Terms affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, profits, opportunities or goodwill, or for any loss caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Because the Service is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to 100 US dollars (or the equivalent in your currency). We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Indemnity
If you break these Terms or the law while using the Service, and this causes a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.
Ending your use
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may stop providing the Service to you if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as intellectual property, disclaimers and limitation of liability) continue after that.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the country where the site owner is established, and the courts there have jurisdiction, unless the law of the country where you live as a consumer gives you the right to bring proceedings or rely on its laws. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us: most problems can be solved quickly by talking.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date shows when. If a change is significant we will tell you on the site or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new Terms apply.
General
If any part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still do so later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours to someone who takes over the Service. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
